What Do Dishwasher Error Codes Mean?

Below are some of the error codes in LG dishwashers, their causes, and how to fix the appliance:

• bE 

This dishwasher error code appears when the dishwasher is not leveled properly, meaning that it does not sit flat and even on the floor. When this happens, the appliance will not clean the upper and lower racks properly, and the door gasket will eventually get damaged. 

To ensure that the dishwasher is leveled, place a level inside the machine against the top, sides, and bottom. Then, adjust its positioning as needed for perfect alignment.

This code also appears when using the wrong detergent, which leads to poor cleaning and excessive suds. If suds have already formed, pour half a cup of milk in a shallow bowl, place it on the upper rack, and then run the AUTO cycle. This way, the suds will stick to the fat of the milk so that they are rinsed out thoroughly. 

• AE and E1

These two dishwasher error codes indicate that the appliance is overflowing and leaking water. This can be the result of a few things, such as:

1.Improper Levelling: To ensure perfect leveling, use the level as mentioned above, or remove the bottom rack and pour about a liter of water in the bottom of the machine. If the water accumulates on either side, then the appliance is not leveled correctly and needs to be repositioned.

2.Dirt Accumulation: Food particles and dirt can accumulate on the door gasket and on spray arms, preventing proper sealing and obstructing water flow. The simple fix is to clean these parts before starting the next cycle. 

3.Detergent Issues: Using the wrong detergent or too much detergent creates excessive suds and residue, which pushes against the door seal, leading to leaks. Be sure to use the right product and follow the guidelines closely.

• IE 

The IE code appears when there is not enough water for the dishwasher to function. To resolve this, check that the water supply valve is on and the water line is not bent. If both are fine, ensure that the water pressure is within the recommended range (20 – 120 PSI). Note that it is best to consult a plumber when it comes to pressure issues.

• OE

This dishwasher error code is caused by draining issues, often due to food clogs or installation problems. To fix this, clean the filter, straighten the drain hose if it is kinked, and clean the waste spigot, as it can accumulate plastic debris and food particles over time.

If the dishwasher is installed recently and the OE error appears on the first wash, then the drain hose is not installed properly and must be adjusted by the installer.
